Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Chicago, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across Illinois run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 amβ10 pm. It is closed on Monday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. Chicago is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. Getting around Chicago is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Illinois's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Kapitan served us an excellent meal. Everything was tasty, and the service was top-notch. Our Indonesian girls approved the dishes they chose, by the way. We all had fun for sure. Selamat makan!

Definitely on the pricey side in my opinion, but the food, service, and interior were great! It was my first time having Malaysian food, and I ordered nasi lemak Kapitan chicken and an iced Malaysian tea. The tea was delicious and reminded me of a lighter, more aromatic Indian masala chai. The main dish was just right, the rice was unexpectedly good with a nice texture and the chicken was tender and juicy. I will definitely come back!

Went here for a late dinner after our Ravinia opening concert. The soup was fresh and not oily. But I wish the mushroom could be cut into smaller pieces. The Nyonya seafood clay pot was saucy and rich. They were generous on prawns. The coconut flavor was rich but not too heavy or greasy. Chicken was very tender and flavorful. There was FIFA World Cup game playing live. Love it!

Tried Kapitan and now Iβm questioning why I havenβt been eating Malaysian food my whole life! Like when is the next flight out? The flavors were completely new to me and somehow both comforting and exciting. Chicago, you need to put this one on your list, and your family friendly list too. The lamb dish was the winner for me, and my husband was obsessed with the chicken mango. The staff was so kind, and the kidβs area was basically the secret ingredient because we got to actually enjoy our meal while our son had his own adventure and then fell asleep.

My friends and I visited here for some good food and good times, and it ended up being just that. The menu contains many traditional Malaysian and Singaporean food items, ranging from nasi lemak to sambal eggplant to chicken satay, and pretty much everything tasted great with good flavor. The sambal flavor defined the eggplant dish and since you can't really go wrong with sambal, the dish was just great. The chicken satay had good sauce that helped enhance its flavor. The nasi goreng was seasoned very well, with all the seasonings infused into the rice. The rendang beef had very tender beef in terms of texture, and the curry lemongrass sauce evidently defined the flavor, making it an overall very enjoyable experience. Finally, the lamb shank that came with the nasi lemak was also very tender because it was slow-cooked, and together with the nasi lemak, the combination worked well. If there was one thing I wanted to see improvement on, then I would've loved it if the roti pratha included even more roti, simply because it'd be common pratice to eat it in relatively larger quantities. Otherwise, everything was just great. Even if the menu was huge, I couldn't see a possibility of ch
